Over 13 years ago Christian, a self-identified Black Non-binary Queer person, began cutting their own hair to avoid the subjection of the largely cis-male-centric barbershop experience. Which unfortunately felt like not feeling safe, seen, and protected. They quickly recognized that many shared this experience within their native community, Oakland, CA, and that they had naturally gifted styling talents.

So, Christian honed in on their craft and apprenticed as a Barber while teaching themselves the technical aspects of cutting different hair types. But aside from that, they paid attention to the varying hair needs and listened to the desires of their clients and friends to feel seen and heard in a space that can be very vulnerable and intimate.
